The older I get, the more fed up I am that we are so influenced by what the bureaucrats of record labels did: a work of art should be dated with the date when the artist finished it, not the date when someone else started selling it!
Scaruffi's online music database covers thousands of musicians. You can help with his epic project to gather recording dates (month and year) for each album in his database by checking the liner notes for each album you own that he has written about, and submitting them to Scaruffi via email in the following format:

Artist: Title (month year)

Thank you for contributing to recorded history!

knowbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17330213582249497479noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28208155.post-1159665449408844232006-09-30T16:42:00.000-05:002006-09-30T20:17:29.423-05:00Carl Orff - Orff-Schulwerk Volume 1Haven't been able to track down the other volumes yet, but here's Vol. 1:

Orff-Schulwerk Volume 1

knowbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17330213582249497479noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28208155.post-1159565760678171372006-09-29T15:23:00.000-05:002006-09-29T16:36:00.693-05:00Various - Unknown Public 8: Sensuality, Essence & NonsenseA collection of avant-garde tracks from Unknown Public in 1996. Much of their music is now available in compilations like this disc, but some of their music never survived past the original, super-limited LP releases. I can't find reliable information about the original LPs, or any track listings, but here I've collected 6 tracks from those super-rare LPs.

For more information, see this lengthy interview with Young and Zazeela.

Part 1
Part 2

knowbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17330213582249497479noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28208155.post-1150835006955839062006-07-06T14:32:00.000-05:002006-07-06T08:37:52.906-05:00La Monte Young - Dream HouseTwo more colossal La Monte Young compositions are compiled on Dream House (1973). Some critics rank this disc above even the popular Well-Tuned Piano. I'm just some guy who wants to share his love of innovative music with others.

Hey, ______ isn't out of print!

Oops, sorry. Let me know and I'll delete the offending post. I deal with very rare music on this blog, and sometimes it's hard for me to determine if something is really out of print or not.

I've got some out of print classical music I'd like to share.

Great! You can upload it yourself and post a comment with the download link, or you can email me at knowby [at] gmail.com and we'll figure something out.

I've got a request.

Great! Please verify that the title is actually out of print, then let me know! I love requests, and don't get enough of them.

Your writing sucks!

Yeah, I know. Unfortunately, I have very little time to devote to this blog, and since I don't actually know music (I just love it), I won't waste your time with pretty but ignorant commentary. I'll share the music and you can figure out if you like it. If you want to comment on the music or link to more information about it, please do so.

knowbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17330213582249497479noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28208155.post-1151931687821720572006-07-03T07:44:00.000-05:002006-07-03T08:01:27.833-05:00David Shire - The Taking of Pelham One Two Three
p-eat requested David Shire's Schoenbergian score for The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. I've chosen Ensemble Modern's (out-of-print) performance of Prometeo, a 1984 opera and one of Nono's most famous works. I leave the commentary to people who know what they're talking about (like Stefan Beyst), but I will say this is one my favorite 20th century operas.

Encoded in 320kbps MP3 for your listening pleasure.

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

knowbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17330213582249497479noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28208155.post-1151677767339233762006-06-30T21:24:00.000-05:002006-06-30T09:29:27.340-05:00NoteI've deleted older posts that linked to music that is not out-of-print, so I feel like this blog is now, in some way, "legit".

Readers, please make more requests for out-of-print classical music. I love to fill requests. And, I'm still waiting for other contributors.

I hope you're all watching the comments. Some great info and commentary has been posted, along with additional download links.

knowbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17330213582249497479noreply@blogger.com8
